Time Slip/Travel Paranormal Experience
86Is there a prison door between what we see and what enters our reality at times? Does the door swing open on occasion? Can it?
Yesteryear and the Paranormal
The incident described in this article is about what I believe may have been a paranormal or preternatural time slip/time travel occurrence that happened as a young teenager.
In the early seventies my family would often visit an aunt and uncle who owned and operated a motel-restaurant several miles south of Interstate 85 in Jackson County, Georgia.
A few years ago as I traveled down the interstate towards Atlanta's airport to pick-up someone coming in from Germany, I decided to make a quick detour and ride by the old motel which was some miles north of the small town of Commerce.
It turned into a frustrating side-trip as the motel was gone and the extensive wild wheat fields and copses of trees remembered from childhood were now swallowed up by strip malls and fast food establishments. I finally had to stop and ask someone where the place used to be.
There have been six incidents in my life that could be considered paranormal or supernatural. Two of them happened in childhood- this story being one of those- and the other four took place during a six year period in my thirties. Four of these incidents have already been written about on the site here.
For the longest time the only people I discussed any of this with were relations or friends. When I joined the wonderful community at HubPages though, I sensed the time had come to write them down and share with anyone interested. It was a great pleasure to see the response and hear about others' experiences with the unusual or paranormal.
Popular Culture and Interest
As a little boy in the sixties one of the great t.v. shows watched from those years was Irwin Allen's "The Time Tunnel." The premise of the series-which ran for one season on the ABC network- was a top secret project known as Tic-Toc located in an underground base in Arizona.
It mostly concerned two scientists' entering a spiraling constructed time tunnel and then going forward or backward in time. The show may have been prescient and certainly put many a young mind to pondering on the possibilities.
If we go back in time a bit ourselves we can see such literary classics on the subject like A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs Court by Mark Twain, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, and of course, The Time Machine by H.G. Wells.
More recent books and movies in the timeslip/travel genre include the Star Trek and Back to the Future series of films and Steven Kings novella The Langoliers. The list of scientists' - past and present- involved with the subject is also a very lengthy one.
The point being that despite the phenomena known as Time Slip/Travel causing much contention between believers and doubters, the subject has been around and fascinated the public and some of the world's greatest thinkers for a long time.
I'm far from being any kind of expert in the physics of time slips/travel, a detailed explanation on how they could happen is readily available in many popular books and on the internet.
However, it should be stated that there is some good evidence time slips/travel particularly occur on certain intersections of an earth grid, the Bermuda Triangle being one of the better known of these vortex spots.
All in the Family- Black-Haired Specter and Time Slip/Travel
Before we start with what may or may not have been my personal experience with a timeslip, lets look at one intriguing fact and then a sister's reluctantly told story of her own one time paranormal encounter.
I've often read or seen insider videos that seem to suggest people with Celtic or Native American blood are more likely to pick up on extraordinary phenomena. Whether this has to do with DNA or something else no one seems to know for sure.
My sister and self are of German and British Isles heritage which should include some Celtic stock. A great- grandmother also had some Native American blood-lines. Obviously, if this is true, then a combination of the two, in varying degrees, would be the most receptive of all to the paranormal or supernatural.
Ann is a pragmatic and down to earth woman, not given to flights of fancy or falsehoods. She was rather hesitant to tell her story as the subject of one of my paranormal events came up around a warming fire in her house one winter.
It all began when a previous husband's grandfather passed away. A day or so before the funeral Ann walked into her den one afternoon only to be met with the startling sight of a middle-aged woman stretched out on her couch, staring up at her with dark eyes.
This wasn't any ordinary lady but one with stringy, unwashed looking, long black hair. Stunned, Ann stood there in amazement for some time as the figure slowly vanished in front of her.
This wasn't to be the only appearance of this specter. For the next three or four nights running the eerie apparition came to Ann's side of the bed, hung on to the bed post, and just stared at her.
She said the figure had an old fashioned kind of dress on and after a while would seem to float away towards the bedroom door or wall. After the three or four nights she stopped appearing and Ann says she's sure it had something to do with her ex- husband's deceased grandfather.
Her spouse, whom she told of the visits at the time, had no clue about the specter's identity either but felt the same as Ann concerning the connection to his grandfather.
Astoundingly, Hubber Seeker7 made the insightful comment that the woman and family situation had all the earmarks of what is known as a Scottish/Irish Banshee.
As mentioned previously in the article I would often visit the aunt and uncle's place as a young teenager. Other than watching programs like The Flip Wilson Show in the lobby or swimming in the tiny pool there wasn't much to keep a young boy occupied at the motel.
I'd recently been given a .22 rifle and 20 gauge shot-gun which was a common thing for a boy to receive around twelve or thirteen back then. In front of the motel and across the highway were grass and wild wheat fields, interspersed with patches of trees, that went back for many miles. I often walked those fields trying to stir up rabbits to hunt or just think on things as young boys are wont to do.
One day while returning through those fields from a fruitless hunt, I suddenly felt all tensed up and a bit light-headed. It was a sunny day and it should be noted that as far as I knew back then there weren't any buildings, roads, or homes anywhere in those expansive meadows.
Within a few seconds of the tense feeling there suddenly appeared to my right an old cabin type looking house. There were also several small, nearly naked, African-American children squealing and chasing each other in front of the antiquated looking place.
But what caught my eye more than anything was an attractive young woman sitting on a log who was closest to me as I passed. I took her as the childrens' mother. She turned and smiled at me very warmly; and what struck me then and even more so later was what she was wearing.
The young woman had on a turban type head wrap and a distinctly old timey looking dress that went to her feet and came down to her wrists. The whole scene and feel was just completely out of place with anything I was familiar with. Returning the smile and then passing by very quickly the tenseness and strange feeling soon went away.
At some point, maybe the next day, maybe several days later when I was back in those fields, although not specifically looking for the cabin, it was no where in sight which puzzled me a little. I'll be the first to admit the whole thing may have been nothing, but still, the experience was very strange and never forgotten.
For further reading on the subject the writer highly recommends Nell Rose's The Liverpool Time Slips The True Story of Mysterious Occurrences in Bold Street and JamaGenee's The Ghost Train of Highland Park.

I have not had the opportunity that I know of to slip travel, however as you know I recounted a meeting on a Kentucky back road a Lady In White. This is simply amazing that you actually had slipped into another time period. Like being on a time machine travel.
I bet you must have been stunned for some time after you left this apparition? Amazing to that they knew you were there as she smiled directly at you. Simply wow my friend, I wish I had that experience as well.
I must admit some of my dreams I've had developed into expressive poetry. I wonder if I slip into another dimension when I sleep? Great story, voted Up and awesome.
phoenix, babies being sucked up in a funnel and then found totally unharmed is something totally different. That's just PURE LUCK! lol!
I am, however, still pondering the physics at work during the "big" earthquake (of three tremors) last fall, a 5.6 if memory serves, where it was obvious the ground under my duplex was getting quite a shake for almost 60 seconds - a long time for a tremor in OK - and the ONLY thing that moved inside was one lampshade. I watched it swing back and forth, back and forth, waiting for knickknacks and such on shelves to hit the floor, or at least slide around, but they never did! NOTHING moved (except the lampshade). Glassware in the kitchen cabinets didn't even rattle. Very weird.
JamaGenee, I think L. Frank Baum already covered possibility when he wrote' The Wizard of Oz.' lol
I didn't know that about tornadoes. Do you think that maybe that's what happens when you hear stories of babies being sucked up a twister and then found totally unharmed?
(Alastar, if this turns out to be a duplicate comment, just delete it! I wrote one, hit "submit" and POOF! it apparently went into a parallel dimension!)
PBS recently aired a documentary on tornadoes that said that the energy inside a vortex totally changes - albeit temporarily - the molecular makeup of objects in its path. That's how a straw can go through a steel beam or (my fave!) a sheet of paper can slice halfway through a tree limb without a wrinkle. If THAT can happen, I don't see why people, under the "right" conditions, can't slip through a time portal (and back again). Someday perhaps we can all do it at will. Wouldn't that be FUN??? ;D
I once saw what I thought was a Banshee. She was on the side of my bed scared the me almost to death. She was gone fast and I have never seen her again. I told my husband about her in the morning and he was wondering why she was here. I worried all day that she came for some terrible reason but nothing ever happened. It was very likely just a dream.
Great Hub.
Interesting. I just started here. The paranormal has always been of interest to me.
Just noticed CMHypno's comment about parallel universes. A subject as intriguing as time slips! However, as I understand it, the time frame is the same in both universes, only the events experienced by the people who occupy them are different. Think "forks in Life's road". A parallel universe is the "other" fork...the one we always wonder about because we didn't take it. Am I totally off-base?
I adore exploring this 'little island'. There is so much history here it's no wonder we are awash in spirits and other paranormal phenomena.
One of the first things I do when I'm in a new place is see if they do Ghost Walks. The guides are not only knowledgeable but entertaining. I usually go back to these places so I can visit at my leisure. Can't wait to head back to St. Ives, Cornwall and do some more exploring.
Alastar, I'm ever amazed at how much history your "little island" (and the country of my roots) holds! Not at all surprised a lot of that history reappears in ghostly form on a regular basis. Considering how many rulers it's had and how many were overthrown, no surprise, either, those who weren't satisfied with the outcome should still be wandering around. I just prefer they don't wander through my hotel room in the wee hours! ;D
Had to go and google the Legendary Legionnaires of York. Veddy intrusting! According to York websites, however, it's the most haunted city in England. Seems every "good" hotel there has a resident ghost (or two or four). I love a good haunting as much as the next person, but prefer my nights in a foreign city to be ghost-free, so York would have to be a day-trip from somewhere else!
Hello Alastar. Just popped over from JamaGenee's hub about her timeslip experience. This is a fascinating subject and I've enjoyed reading about your experiences. It doesn't sound like you freaked out when these events happened. I guess somewhere deep down, this doesn't seem strange to you.
Incidentally, the incident of the young plumber who saw the Legendary Legionnaires while installing a central heating system took place at the Treasure's House in York, UK. The Romans appeared to be walking on their knees because they and their horses were walking along an old Roman road, the Via Decumana, which had been buried 15 inches below the surface.
The panic-stricken boy raced upstairs where the curator remarked, "You've seen the Roman soldiers, haven't you?" Clearly this was not a new experience for the curator.
Voted up, interesting and awesome.
Alastar, my hub about my experience with the "ghost train", which I now believe was really a time slip, is almost finished. It will, of course, have a link to this hub! ;D
Hi Alastair, another great story, I carry Celtic and Native American Indian DNA so maybe that explains why I am a paranormal magnet. If anything weird ever happens it will happen to me. Time travel would be great as long as I could return at will. lol
Follow away! Considering the number of comments from other hubbers who don't find time slips and other paranormal experiences "weird" or unbelievable, I'm screwing up the courage to write about what's possibly another time slip only a few blocks from my friend's house on the ley line intersection. ;D
I came over here from Nell's time slip hub. Until I read her hub, I'd never heard of time slips, but am learning they must be rather common. In fact, going on the premise that seeing one "person" appear out of nowhere is probably a ghost but seeing several people with inanimate objects (like a cabin) is a time slip, I believed I witnessed the latter at least once.
I was sitting at the end of a friend's kitchen table watching him peel potatoes at the sink on the other side of the room. The door to the laundry room was about 8 feet to his left, and I could see into that room from where I was sitting. It should be mentioned his little house, albeit in an older, big city neighborhood, was believed to have been built where two ley lines cross. Historically, the entire area was neutral ground for several Indian tribes before the whites came. I happened to be sitting on the exact spot where the ley lines crossed. Suddenly, in the doorway to the laundry room, a trapper wearing buckskin and a Daniel Boone cap and an Indian in a loin cloth appeared on either side of a rack used for drying and stretching animal skins. They appeared to be discussing the progress of the skin in the rack, which was made of tree branches lashed together with strips of leather at the corners. The "vision" (for lack of a better word) lasted 10-20 seconds, and since the vignette was wider than the door, the part of the walls on either side that'd normally be there, weren't. My friend was so engrossed in the potato peeling that he didn't see it. It didn't frighten me. I only wish it'd lasted longer!
btw, I've been psychic and all that entails since I was 15 or so. I have 2 drops of Irish blood and 2 drops Scottish...the rest is two-thirds English, a third German and a third Swedish. It's believed I inherited my psychic talents from my Swedish grandmother.
Great hub, Alastar! Voted up and awesome! ;D
Very interesting Hub about a fascinating subject. I will read more. It does tend to give one chills.
Great article! My book refers to "Hidden in plain sight." Perhaps there is more than our perceived world existing? Perhaps an analogy of a looking up through the surface of water in seeing trees, but unable to exist in that dimension...
Time may be flexible... as is gravity: all relative.
Really interesting story here. There are so many strange things in this world.
Hey Alastar!
What a read that was. I shall be reading it a few more times, memorizing it, and then writing it from memory so that I may soak up some of your awesome writing style! Nah, just kidding. You do have a thoroughly interesting style though.
Unfortunately I have never encountered anything supernatural while awake. I have had some horrific nightmares though and some terrifying hallucinations that haunted me for years afterwards.
There was one nightmare in particular that plagued me for years from around 8 years old to 16. It would start with me in the deserted aisle of a supermarket pushing an empty shopping trolley and the place was utterly empty and silent, save for the shelves of groceries. Then it would kind of skip and I would be standing outside the supermarket sliding doors in a completely pitch black corridor, the only light coming from the supermarket. Then there would be a low rumbling noise from further up the corridor and upon looking, i'd see this huge ball rolling towards me filling the entire corridor, much like the one from the Indiana Jones movie (raiders of the lost ark?). I would run away from it, deeper into the darkness until I reached this dead-end with only a corner to squeeze into as far as I possibly could. I would watch the ball approaching, terrified out of my wits. When it reached my position, horrifyingly, it would become a leering face, eyes wide, teeth clenched. The face would press onto my own and push, all the time I couldn't close my eyes, just stare into those horrible eyes as it crushed me against the wall. I would wake up sweating and crying and the face would still be there in my mind, mocking and reminding me of its presence. This dream would reoccur often when I was younger, sometimes 2 or 3 days in a row and sometimes once or twice a month. Even as a teenager I had it a few times. Spookily, sometimes during the day as long as the nightmare continued, the face would suddenly flash into my mind's eye, stunning me for a second and causing the hairs on my neck to stand on end.
Perhaps just the nightmares of a highly imaginative child, or maybe a spirit, who knows. Thank god that face is gone though. It was a truly frightening face to behold, all consuming, mocking, sneering, hungry.
I may turn it into a story, come to think of it. May scare a few people. haha
Thanks for that great story Alastar!
Peace. :)
This is a very interesting story, I have had a few incidents that were similar to what happened to you. I may write about it at some point when i get some free time. Thanks for sharing your experience, and have a great day.
Wow. Another fascinating Hub, Alastar. Voted up all across!
I appreciated you mentioning Celtic and Native American ancestry being possibly related to seeing these things. I've had so many strange experiences, and while I have no Native American blood (that I know of), I found out a few years ago that I am mostly Welsh, with some Irish, which is not what I thought, but that's my ancestry. Both have their own Celtic languages so I guess they're Celtic.
Anyway I had a very similar experience a year or two after we moved into this house in Michigan. I woke up and could see two people staring in the front windows. One was a small girl, about 5 or 6, her name was Agnes. She was dressed in 40s or 50s clothes, and a yellow raincoat. She was hit by a bus and died.
Next to her was a black man in his mid to late 40s or early 50s, wearing a simple muslin shirt (kind of off white) and darker pants in a woven fabric with tall boots. His name was Benjamin Oldman and I got his birth and death years also--1767 to 1812. He was up here hunting for furs with some French voyageurs and died when a musket ball took his left arm off and he bled out. I could see the gun, I knew what the bullet looked like--it was a bit larger than a big marble, bigger than a modern bullet. The front part of the gun was very long.
Why did this info come with the sight of these two? They just stared at me, then faded away. I told my spouse who said that that wasn't even possible as no slaves could have been this far north that early--even white people didn't come here until the mid 1800s.
I said, well, one came here!
Honestly it's freaky to have stuff like this happen ever, let alone more than once. I've had to come to terms with it as just a thing that happens to me. I am not insane. I'm just an ordinary person. I've raised kids, worked all my life, so I'm hardly some kind of nut job.
Was it a time slip? It reminds me of your woman in the turban. I just don't know. But I do think time is not what we think it is. The linear concept of time--it's an artifact of our perceptual faculties. It isn't real, it's a construct. So who knows.
I'll be thinking about this hub a long time. Thanks for the validation. I means a lot, seriously.
Hi Alastar,
As a child we were always made aware of the banshee when we stayed with grandparents in Ireland.
They say if you hear one wailing a death will follow.
This hub is a series of spooky events that cannot be explained in everyday terms.
There are things that we just do not know.
The old house may indeed have been a time slip moment. There are theories of parallel universes who knows?
What I do know is this, it is another great hub and the storyteller kept me gripped, again. Well done my friend.
Voted up and 4/5 buttons sharing.
Here is the Youtube link to the H2 program about da Vinci and the cave: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dd2LIGA3MB4&feature
Just catching up on all the hubs I want to read. I flipped to your profile page and looked for your paranormal hubs and found this one. Earlier today I watched On Demand Ancient Aliens, a program about Leonardo da Vinci (The Da Vinci Conspiracy) who is believed to have experienced a time slip of some sort. Apparently he was a very private man, however, in his private papers, they found a journal and the first entry concerned finding a mysterious cave. He wrote how he felt terrified by the darkness of the cave, on the other hand he felt a certain desire to find what was in there. The question is what did he find in the cave. We can assume that this was a significant event because he wrote it down, one of the few biographical notes. There are a couple years of his life missing.
If you haven't watched it was very interesting.
Fascinating experience Alastar and its amazing to note that those that have had profound experiences such as yours do quite often have many other closely aligned experiences that seem to build them up to those big ones.
I have also heard much truth that there is a very powerful sensitivity in the Celtics and Native American DNA, to supernatural experiences too.
All the best friend, voted up all the way TC.
Absolutely fascinating hub and I love how you seamlessly wove literature and TV shows into the narrative.
I'm one who believes paranormal experiences are real. There's much we don't understand about them but the fact that they exist is not something I question.
Voted up, useful, awesome and interesting.
Am going over to read the Liverpool Time Slips.
Woe Alastar-Very interesting hub on some para-normal experiences between you and your sister. You are aware that I'm a believer as I just saw you commented on my hub about an apparition of my mother. I think these events have happened for centuries but maybe we are more willing to admit them in this day in age. I know I have no worries about sharing my para-normal experiences. This was really fun to read and I hit many buttons and shared it. Too good not to share :-)
Alastar - These stories of yours are quite extraordinaire! The "shape-shifters, trickster spirits and skin-walkers hub" was scary and freaky. This story was intriguing and fascinating! Well I have neither Celtic or Native American blood in my veins, but it seems I have the ability to pick up on extraordinary phenomena anyway. The strange thing is, I never had this ability as a child or young woman, but it started to appear later in life. Alastar, it looks like you have the gift of seeing things others can't. The things you have experienced are very powerful. I see it as a gift, because it truly is I think. I definitely believe there are spirits all around us all the time! My elder sister is frustrated because she's not able to pick-up on the things, or feel the presence, I experience in her house. And no, I have neither drunk, smoked or inhaled anything out of the ordinary at the time! He!He! Always a great pleasure to read your work my friend!
This is an amazing story! I truly enjoyed reading it. Thank you for sharing your story with us. Up and awesome. I will be sharing on my FB page as my sister-in-law in very interesting in the paranormal. Have a great day! :)
Hi! Tarheel Just want to say Hi! I have been looking for your next story :-) Canook
What an interesting and fascinating story! I have never had a paranormal experience, but I have had premonition dreams. I will dream something that will actually happen to me in the future. At the time I dream it, I don't understand the dream and then soon, usually within a year or two, I actually experience the dream. It is uncanny.
I would document these occurences you have. Perhaps it will help you to figure out who these apparitions are and why they visit you.
What a fantastic and chilling tale. I have had my experiences with the paranormal as it relates to strange noises heard and things that go bump in the night, but I have never experienced full body apparitions like what you and your sister have experienced. What further intrigued me was the cabin that was no longer there. What a strange sequence of events. This is a much deserved vote up and a tweet to all my twitter followers. Thank you for SHARING.
HEY DUDE- WHERE THE HELL IS THE COMMENT I WAS PROMISED:
PEACE REB
GREG :)
Sitting all alone right now, that gave me the chills. I have had experiences and people sometimes believe I am nuts. I know that spirits walk this Earth our minds do not create those figments, they are real. There is a reason they still roam and it is something that many will not understand. Thumbs Up! :)
Hey Alastar- enjoyed this mucho grande muchachos!
hoped to come by sooner but was sidetracked by several edits on recent poems i'm submitting for publication.
this hub immediately caught my eye. i believe!
many mortals claim to have had visions or experiences that cannot be explained away-
there is too much evidence that should not be brushed aside by skeptics- as nonsense and wishful thinking.
the poem i wrote on that concurrence lasting three nights a few years back had me intrigued as well as a bit frightened.
three days where i thought perhaps i was losing hold on reality-
i see many new titles here- your always interesting examination and look backwards are written in scholarly fashion Alastar- the writes on the revolutionary war in the south will be sure to tickle my fancy.
again, well written mi amigo-
peace brother
greg
Just had to stop by and read this. Very interesting my friend and well written. You sure had one heck of an experience. :-)
AP - AWESOME story, friend! I read the entire thing and couldn't stop. You have definitely had some paranormal experiences, and I sort of agree with your theory on Native Americans and Celtic descent having more of a sensitivity to these things...I have French, Irish, German, and Dutch bloodlines, which all may very well have Celtic blood dating back. I've never experienced anything like this (time slips), but it is sure intriguing to know what you saw! I believe maybe you did experience a slip in time...or possibly saw residual energy of that place? Voted up and awesome.
Well I am not real sure. One could be Camilla which will bloom even around Christmas (but their blooms are just coming and open big on one tree and huge buds starting on another) but some are trees I know are only summer trees. I have pictures. Might do a short hub. Oh but that smell...I could have curled up like my cat and went to sleep it was so heavenly! It was hard to walk away! Maybe you should go out and take a better look around!
Is anything blooming where you are? They are here and buds on everything. Came across one bush that smelled so good with blooms on the ground under it and it was about 65 or higher. I hope a surprise doesn't kill it all....
As always, you rock at telling a story! Your story reminded me of one of my own incidents. I used to visit cemeteries to transcribe the headstones for putting on the internet to help those doing genealogy research. One afternoon I was sort of just taking a lazy break and enjoying the warm October sun, when I noticed a woman walking quietly with her hands sort of folded together and hanging in front of her as she made her way slowly along a dirt path at the side of the cemetery. I did a double-take because she was dressed in a white blouse with high neck and mutton sleeves and her skirt was long and dark, hanging to the ground. She had a "Gibson Girl" type hair style. I quickly looked around for my son who had accompanied me, hoping to see if he was seeing what I was seeing. When I looked around, for a brief few seconds I saw people in similar old fashioned dress just lounging about on the grass. There seemed to be some sort of picnic going on. I turned to look in the other direction but the woman who had been walking was gone and when I turned back to the picnicking folks, they too, were gone. About an hour later, the funeral director who owned the cemetery, just happened to stop by where I was transcribing.
Mr. Ewing was about 90 then (14 years ago). He was a frequent visitor at my restaurant so we got to talking. Without any prompting from me, he launched into an explanation for his visit that sunny October Sunday. Apparently, when he was a child, he used to visit the cemetery along with the rest of his family. He explained that it was common for families of the interred to gather with a picnic at gravesites as a way of spending time with their deceased loved ones. He said the practice sort of tapered off in the 1920's or so, but his mother continued to do so until the day she herself died. So he continued the tradition by packing a sandwich and going every Sunday to visit his parents and his recently deceased brother! Guess I just happened to get a glimpse of a scene that used to be a common sight! Must be my own Cherokee and Irish genes hard at work. Great Hub as always.
Hi, alastar, there are a lot of strange things that happen that defy explanation. If I had learned anything, it is to not discount anything. Our five senses are only good at interpreting our environment within the specification of their design. There is probably much more that we are unaware of that goes on around us than most of us might think.
Get Out of Town! You were a "Time Tunnel" fanatic? That show from Irwin Allen appeared on ABC during the Fall of 1966 and as a kid I was glued to the screen. Anything having to do with time travel always got my attention, the timelines, paradoxes, twists and turns...
You might have stepped into the twilight zone when you saw the old cabin, the women and children. Speaking of Twilight Zone, they have a lot of good time travel related stories. As always, this is a great hub Credence2
Alastar...
At several points in your outstanding narrative, the hairs on the back of my neck were firmly at attention. First when your sister met her visitor and then when you happened upon the cabin that wasn't there.
Being the history geek that I am...I like the notion of history slipping out and not being contained in the past. With the shear amount of 'notable' history that occurred in your region...there would seem many opportunities for it to do so!
Thanks my Friend!
Thomas
Voted up, awesome, useful, and interesting. Alastar, your truly a gifted writer. Very professional, just in case I never said that to you. Amazing job. I applaud your courage to speak out about all your experiences likes you do. I know it is not easy as I have had my own. One thing I have learned from having a few myself is my ability to pick up on when they are around. I am sure you understand. I have no doubt what you have experienced through your childhood and as an adult is paranormal. Of course you have to be careful, but perhaps you should investigate further or ask a team to do it for you. Just know you are not alone my friend. i believe you 100%. Amazing story and evidence. Hope your doing well and hope you have a great day!
I was reading this fascinating piece and noticed Hyphenbird's comment. Did you say UFO in Hickory??? Did you see this on the 23rd? We need to talk and compare photos!!
Alastar, this is absolutley fascinating. I am not a scientist either, but I do know that there are so many things going on that our human brains can't process or understand. I hope you will write a book of your discoveries and experiences. Well done!
Hi, Alastar, very interesting. I had already checked out Nell's hub on the subject, which I find fascinating. It is all very weird and I wish we could find an explanation. The unknown is very frustating for me. Goosebumps all over while I read your description and also the description of your sister's experience. Great hub.
It seems as some people can easier than others see or experience paranormal events! I find it very interesting but I am afraid I am totally incapable to connect with any paranormal even if it is there. I live in an old house and I have several friends telling me there is something or someone in this house. They can feel the presence of "it" or "them" and even hear steps and such. But I don't feel a thing and I dont hear anything either, except the wind or the creaking from an old house. As far as I am concerned, here is no one besides me and my family.
But I trust my friends also so there is probably something here even if I am unable to feel it.
You seem to have the gift to experience time-slip and you did a great job telling about it. I think it is fascinating and enjoyed reading your article very much!! Thanks Alastar for another fabulous hub!
Tina
Hi Alastar. You are mostly correct on the Winchester House story. It was Sarah Winchester who built the house (or had it built). After Winchester died, Sarah inherited a fortune and turned to psychics and mediums in her loneliness and depression.
She was told that the spirits of the people shot down by her husband's rifles were bitter and lost and vengeful and she must do something to keep them from harming her. A medium had told Sarah that William's spirit would guide her and that she take her fortune, move west, "follow the sunset" and find a place for the angry spirits to abide.
So Sarah moved west, to California. She was told by "William's spirit" that she would know when she found the right place. The medium told her she must build a home for herself and the spirits that had fallen from the rifles.
In 1884, Sarah found herself in the Santa Clara Valley. There was a home under construction, by a Doctor Caldwell. The house had six rooms. Sarah convinced Dr. Caldwell to sell it to her. From that moment till her death, Sarah made her home there and never stopped adding to the small house, which over the years had become the enormous mansion that still stands in all it's mystery, giving the fallen spirits room to roam.
It was not a sense of humour that drove Sarah to build the mysterious house, it was one of survival. She believed that as long as she kept building she would live and eventually make things right for the spirits that her husband's rifles took down. It is now a California Historical Landmark.
Ghostly tales are still told around the hearths today of the spirits haunting the house. One lost soul, a man dressed like a cowboy, roams the hallways, looking for a way out.
Sarah Lockwood Winchester died alone in her bedroom September 4, 1922, after retiring from conferring with spirits in the seance room.
I have been there many times and I love the big old mansion. I think you would, too. If you ever do get there, I hope you write about it, for I love reading your hubs, you are a wonderfully gifted writer.
Dear Alastar,
It is wonderful to have the luxury of reading one of my favorite people/ writers. I have long believed in the power and possibility of paranormal experiences ... and your (and Ann's) experiences are fascinatingly descriptive. Thank you for allowing us into this part of your life ... voted UP & Awesome!
Hope you are having a peaceful weekend. Hugs, Nurse mar.
Hi Alastar,
One time my mother and I experienced the same EXACT thing at the same time. Suddenly in the room with us was a young Hispanic looking girl seated and looking calm and happy. We had been wondering about a child and what had happened to her. Her mother was a live-in maid at my parents house and went back to Mexico taking little Maggie with her. She would not have been treated well as she came from an unwed mother (the maid). Supposedly the maid had been raped by a former boss...at least that was the story. My parents would have adopted her but the answer was no due to intervention from a Catholic priest in Mexico that thought that she should stay with her mother. The man that the maid was living with supposedly did not like the child and schooling was not free in Mexico...so undoubtedly Maggie would have had a very tough life. My parents loved her just like a grandchild and would have given her a great life.
Enough years would have passed and we assumed from our apparition that she was probably in the next life and wanted us to know that she was OK. At least that is the only explanation that we could come up with at the time.
Hi Alastar, another great hub telling a riveting story. Whenever I read your tales of the supernatural I remember this music and the tales I loved watching from the series: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQKiIyFtuBE
I also loved The Time Tunnel and longed for the opportunity to travel in time as they did.
After reading this hub I also think that you would thoroughly enjoy the book The Dissappearance of the Universe by Gary Renard. He describes his meetings with two people who just suddenly appeared in his living room one day. It is a fascinating read.
I looked for the comments as you requested but could not find one by quality girl. The other one however, by faithful daughter is troubling in that she could have had a black out and should have that checked out by her doctor first.
Thank you Dixie and keep them coming!
Alastar what an amazing story. We really know so little about the world we live in. This story coming from a 'down-to-earth' person like yourself makes the story ever more curious.
Wow my friend how brilliant is this one??? I won't reply because the number of comments do that for me.
Every single one of your hubs are interesting;awesome and so well presented.
We can't ask for much more can we and this one is no exception.
So I think another up up and away is in order for you my friend.
Take care and enjoy your day.
Eddy.
...wow Mister Packer you are freaking me out and I love it - and this world class piece of writing because that is your middle name Alastar WORLD CLASS Packer will appear on my Facebook page with a direct link back here as I waltz out the door now at lake erie time 9:00pm for an otherworldly experience of my own otherwise known as night shift.
If anyone has ever been inside the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California, you will understand what I am going to say.
I believe there are many realms besides the one we call reality. It is like walking into a massively huge house of mystery that has so many stairs leading to so many doors. Some of those doors lead to nowhere, others take one to places unseen before. Each place entered is different than the previous one.
You have walked through a door, Alastar, and shared with us the wonder and beauty of another place, another time.
Some doors are locked, some are too heavy to open, some are veil thin. Some places are too far to reach and some are just at the edge of our own reality where we can enter easily.
I love reading about other realms.
Hello Alastar. There are many things in this world and indeed the next one that we do not understand. I do believe two dimensions can "slip" into the other for brief moments. Perhaps that is when happened to you. I have not ever seen an apparition and hope I never do. I have had other occurrences that boggle the mind. Faithful Daughter mentioned time lapse. I have experienced that when I was praying. About 3 hours disappeared. Also one day I need to tell you about the UFO I saw in Hickory in broad daylight. Spiritual forces are at work every moment of every day. What an enlightening Hub you have here. I enjoyed the boyhood reminiscences and your descriptions. As always you entertain and make one think.
Wow, freaky stuff. I am a firm believer though. I wrote of my very strange experiences in a hub. It is certainly a mystery worth delving into. Thank you for sharing.
This is a fascinating hub, and it was great to read it after I read Nell's hub about time slips - the two articles fit together very well. I think that there's definitely something going on that is beyond our scientific understanding right now, but I hope it can be explained very soon. Reality is very strange!
Yes thanks Alastar, that would be great!
I will put yours on mine too, if thats okay?
Hi! Tarheel...I think we are having a Paranormal Experience with the Comment line :-) Canook
Absolutely, positively exceptional hub, Alastar. The topic of 'time slip' and the paranormal creates a powerful paradox for me. My scientific persona insists there is NO proof of these occurences. And my creative side declares there ia NO proof that such events do NOT happen.
I have met a number of people with more than average ESP who have described episodes that appeared to carry premonitions. They are, of course, the exception. The event you described was and is very real to you but cannot, I think, be corroborated. Regardless, this has been fascinating reading and I thank you for sharing it.
Hi! Tarheel Amazing Story.I like the beginning with the prison door. Vote up. Canook
How bizarre! I beleive that there may be places, instances in which time travel is possible. Hope you find the time to share more tales.
My brother, you write about my favorite topic. I love something about mysterious and strange for normal mind. Paranormal, supernatural is out of our imagination. We can't count this like a math, physic or even science. But I do believe this happen in this world. Again..you had done a great job and I give my vote to you, except funny. Have a nice day
Prasetio
Alastar, this is so interesting! And, as always, excellent writing. The Time Slip/Travel theory does make sense.
I am a bit stuck in theories concerning the capacity and potential power of the brain, and in quantum physics, or whatever I understand of it.
I enjoyed the read tremendously. Thank you so much for sharing this with your readers :)
I never used to believe is such occurrences, having thought for years that there were always logical explanations. That is, until I had my own experience about 8 years ago, and spent the next year trying to talk myself out of it. None of my rationalizations worked, however, because it actually happened.
There is so much we don’t know; perhaps never will know until we “cross over,” so to speak. I found your hub to be fascinating! :-)
Alastar, this is an intriguing and very interesting story. I would love to know more about that woman and the cabin. I am always so drawn to old cabins and have always wanted to live in a simple little old cabin. Have you or your sister ever been back to that area?
PS: I, too, have celtic heritage and a strong affinity to some Native American tribes: Lakhota, Hopi, and Pacific Northwest tribes. So, yes, I do believe in these 'paranormal' experiences.
Alastar! This has a 'wow' factor of 100 out of 100! What a fascinating - but, yes, scary experience to have!
I do agree firstly with certain cultures being more open to the paranormal than perhaps others. Native American culture is certainly one as is the Celtic culture. I think I've said before to you, that I have predominantly Scots, but also Irish and Welsh in my family tree, so it's like 3 doses of Celts! It may be DNA or maybe that we are just more tuned into the unseen and accept it without fighting it too much?
What a very scary thing for Ann your sister. The first thing that struck me about her experience was how similar it is to the Irish/Scottish Banshee. I know they are so suppose to wail and cry, but maybe you do get quieter ones. The description - female and a bit bedraggled - does sit well with many descriptions of the Banshee. On the other hand it might have been someone from her husband's family from the far past, especially as the clothes were old fashioned. This spirit/banshee was certainly trying to give a message across to Ann and the death of the grandfather seems the obvious one.
Your experience is awesome! It could well be a timeslip as I don't think that spirits are capable of manifesting to such a degree - with cabin and all. It is interesting though that the lady/mother you met was not phased at all by seeing you? As she smiled warmly, she was obviously very welcoming and very comfortable with your presence. If it was a time-slip, I wonder if she saw you as a spirit? Many African and Caribean cultures are also very tuned into the spiritual and accept paranormal events as normal, so perhaps it wouldn't have bothered her seeing you?
I also found it interesting that you were light-headed and tense. Other accounts I've read of time-slips, people have said that they have also experienced curious sensations just prior to the event. Tingling and a feeling of massive, but temporary depression, and headaches have all been reported. This is really interesting because it adds a physical factor into the equation, rather than the whole episode being viewed as simply subjective.
A wonderful hub and a fascinating read. I loved this! Voted up + awesome!
Alastar your hubs are amazing they are simply from Inspiration to education to entertainment not too many hubbers can fit this bill :) Frank
Wow everyone seems to be into this lately. As I mentioned to Nell though, what I find strange is when we look back at our youth or childhood I suppose everyone is as me and sees themselves, I mean you are not in your body reliving (although I can do that when I am writing) but we are looking at ourselves as we were. Isn't that odd? How could we possibly picture ourselves now if we couldn't then? Are we still there, is everything in memory and continual in a spirit form?
That was a very scary phenomenon you experienced. Thanks for sharing.
I've had my share of scary things happen in my lifetime. I don't know if this story would fit into that time slip/travel, but I had something happen to me about twenty years ago with missing time. I remember while I was doing my laundry, I took a quick look at my clock as I headed towards my laundry room. I had just loaded my second wash into the washing machine, and began removing the previous load from the dryer. The whole task shouldn't have taken me more than 10-15 minutes, however, when I came back to my bedroom and looked at the clock, two hours of my time were missing. I froze, retracing all I did and to my recollection, I had only loaded one wash, and removed the other. Where did my two hours go? This still baffles me today.
Alastar,
Fascinating - which is the norm with your articles. :)
I'm wondering about your sister's visitor, if there could have been any old photos she might have been able to get hold of, to see if she recognized anyone in them.
And regarding your cabin encounter, do you think there might be any records of landowners with a description of where and what type of edifices might have been built on it, and what it was used for?
I knew better than to read your work at the end of a shift. I'll be awake for hours wondering about it, lol.

very interesting hub-I think you may be on to something that really does occur. my story is very different-I was on my way home from a long day of hard work and was driving late at night. My house my about 20+miles from work-all I know is that I was one place one minute, then the next thing I knew I was almost home and didn't remember driving that far already-scary huh-I hate to think I was sleep driving-who knows--but that is very different from your story and I really do believe some people have the ability to see past and future events. From the hubs you have written I think maybe you have some kind of gift!
Great hub as usual Alastar. Time slips seem to be a popular theme on HP this week. I do believe that time is not necessarily the linear process that we live our lives by, and that there are many things that we still need to learn. But maybe there is another explanation, maybe it is slipping into a parallel universe rather than a different time? I think that it is very brave of you to write about your personal paranormal experiences even on such a supportive place as HP, as on the few occasions I have mentioned that I work as a spiritual medium in the forums, I have been called some very choice names!
Totally intriguing. I read Nell's hub on this topic earlier tonight. Synchronicity? I have to wonder if this is occurring with a greater rate of frequency over the last few centuries. There are so many theories out now about how there will be a dimensional shift and things will polarize and change, this kind of fits in with that in a way. Maybe like a tear in the fabric of the space-time continuum? Just a thought. Fascinating hub!
Hi, Wow! sounds like you know just what I was talking about then! isn't it strange? the person who finds themselves in this situation thinks its normal at the time, but then something seems to make them realise that theres something not quite right, as in your case, I wonder what year it was? amazing story, thanks!
Nice Hub!

So good to see you mention your encounter, or should i say communion, with the ' Lady in White' Vincent. The difference between the two is yours was unquestionably a specter type apparition and mine was solid, as if they and the cabin were really there, and may well have been or not, just don't know for sure. There is much speculation about just exactly where the' mind' really resides, inside the skull or out-side somewhere else. The materialists' are of course correct when they posit that nothing can happen without a biological function- for example, they point out that if the mind were out-side the body wouldn't it take over during surgical anesthesia or something similar. That's a strong argument but there are other possibilities- it would take too long to go into all right now, perhaps we can talk further on this later on. Thank you brother Vincent, take care.
